Thoughts about this week's readings

The readings are very scientific and thorough. While they contain a complete history of the evolution of web language programming with necessary accreditations, the sophistication of them was extremely intense. I found myself often overwhelmed and frustrated.
Learning about the magic behind the curtain was not as interesting as I hoped. I do understand the necessity for the web and the pages that connect us to information and each other. I have a whole new respect for people who write code for the apps and pages I use.  I do think that all this will lead to the next step in informational evolution.

Commentary on readings on Week 7 and 8

I remember writing this code years ago and the browser wars. The key to the demise of Netscape as a major player was the free inclusion of Internet Explorer in all the Microsoft software for purchase, in my opinion. While going through the tutorials and the the lecture, I found that it (HTML) has indeed gotten more sophisticated and complex. Some might even say unforgiving. I thin k that these tools are about the ability to being able to make an individual's voice heard among millions. It's amazing. While some doubt the validity of becoming familiar with them, my feeling is that the direction of our profession has to move towards meeting an individual's need to share information of all types. By doing this, we continue our mission to make all information available to all people everywhere. If we don't choose this path, the library will become once again become a place where exclusion serves the powerful and excludes those who are not.

Week 7 Addendum

Boy- a funeral, the memory of my dad's death and the frustration of being older with little understanding about all the stuff we are doing.  I am really pulling my hair out, but thank God and Prof. Yue, Jiepu, and Evgeny for patience and understanding. I am thankful and grateful for all that I am doing learning and understanding...finally.
